Men's doubles: Michele Cappelletti and Matteo Marighella (ITA)

Women's doubles: Giulia Gasparri and Flaminia Daina (ITA)

Finals round-up

Marighella and Cappelletti relied on their combined experience to overcome unseeded opponents 76(3) 60.

The women's final saw the No 6 seeds, the Italians Flaminia Daina and Giulia Gasparri, claim a first world title with a 64 61 win over the first non-Italians to contest the title match - Maraike Biglmaier of Germany and Patricia Diaz of Venezuela.

A packed and passionate crowd of some 3,000 spectators witnessed the final in person with many more following online via the live scoring and live streaming features.

"We won the first game of the second set with my service," said Marighella, "and in the second game we broke Antonelli at 40-40. I think it was the most important game of the match because we started to think then we can win, thanks to the unbelievable serving of Cappelletti."

The more experienced Italians were in complete control and the word “bellissimo” rang out from the crowd time and again as they swept through the second set without the loss of a single game.

2015 World Championships Winners

The women's final saw the No. 6 seeds, the Italians Flaminia Daina and Giulia Gasparri, winning their first world title 64 61. Confidence gained from beating the No. 1 seeds and defending champions, Federica Bacchetta and Sofia Cimatti, in the semifinals the previous day had stood them in good stead.

After dropping the opening game they hardly put a foot wrong and it soon became obvious that while the run of six years of all-Italian women finals may have been over, Italy’s stranglehold on the competition was not.

Tournament Preview

The ITF Beach Tennis World Championships will return to Cervia in 2015 and 2016 following a two-year deal with the Italian Tennis Federation.

Italian players have dominated the Championships since its inaugural edition in Rome’s Foro Italico in 2010 although they face ever increasing international competition. The 2014 event saw 22 different nationalities in the draw with 57 nations represented in the ITF Beach Tennis Rankings.

ITF President Francesco Ricci Bitti said: "We are delighted that these Championships will remain in Italy for a further two years and continue to showcase the very best of the sport. Beach tennis has always thrived in Italy and we are grateful to the Italian Tennis Federation for their ongoing support of beach tennis. We look forward to two more successful years in Cervia."
