Russia set to defend Championship

National teams will once again be making the trip to the Russian capital for the sixth annual World Team Championship where this year the hosts will be the team in everyone's sights as their rivals look to take their title.

In 2016, Russia became the first nation to stop either Italy or Brazil from winning the coveted title and the two giants of the game will no doubt be going all out to reclaim the title in 2017.

Nikita Burmakin (RUS)Speaking following his nation's 2016 triumph, Russia's Nikita Burmakin remarked: "It is a reward for our country and for everything that we have done as a team and individually to develop beach tennis both at home and abroad."

"Finally this year we have managed to win it!" he added.

This year’s event marks the start of a new two-year hosting agreement and will also see the return of the junior team competition first launched in 2015. The junior competition for 14 & under beach tennis players provides international team competition for the younger generation.
